War of words : Giani Gurmukh Singh vs Giani Iqbal Singh Patna

SGPC appointed High priests have been advised by the Takht Sri Patna Sahib Managing Committee to stay away from grand function in Bihar to mark 350th birth anniversary Sri Guru Gobind Singh ji. The committee has told the Badal/SGPC appointed jathedars of Sri Akal Takht Sahib, Sri Kesgarh Sahib and Sri Damdama Sahib that they apprehend opposition against them if they turn up.

All the three chiefs of the Sikh Takhts told to stay away are in Punjab. There is no opposition to Takht Sri Nanded Sahib. Iqbal Singh said they were getting messages from Sikh organizations at various places that the jathedars would face opposition. “Representatives of some Sikh organizations had come in big numbers and told the managing committee to stop you from participating in the half-centenary functions or organizers would be responsible for any untoward incident. So for the sake of your respect, stature and security the managing committee would not be able to welcome you,” reads the letter signed by committee general secretaries Sarjinder Singh and Jathedar Iqbal Singh.
Makkar was not available for comment. Gurbachan Singh too could not be contacted. Iqbal Singh said, “I rang up the Akal Takht jathedar to request him to excuse himself from participating in celebrations, but then he asked for a letter.”
