Phagwara: The Shiv Sena (Bal Thackrey) Punjab unit on Monday questioned the SGPC and the Damdami Taksal over their decision to honour Canadian minister Harjit Singh Sajjan during his Punjab visit. Sena’s state unit vice-president Inderjit Karwal alleged the SGPC was working on the instructions of SAD leaders who wanted to create disturbance in the state after Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh took a strong stand against pro-Khalistan elements. Karwal said a delegation would also meet the CM for ordering a judicial probe into the violence during the period of Militancy.

Canada’s minister of national defence Harjit Singh Sajjan, who arrived in New Delhi on Monday on a weeklong visit to the country ending April 23, will reach Punjab on April 21.

Sources in the Canadian high commission said he would be in Chandigarh on April 21 where he would inaugurate the new office of the consulate-general of Canada. He will leave for Amritsar to pay obeisance at the Golden Temple the same day, said sources. During his two-day stay in Punjab, he will also meet civil society organisations.
