Serious allegations on BJP Minister Anil Joshi

Amritsar Improvement Trust (AIT) Chairman Suresh Mahajan has accused Local Bodies Minister Anil Joshi of undermining his authority and some trust employees of benefiting influential families in various trust schemes. In a communiqué to Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal, he has sought an inquiry into the matter.Citing an instance, he has said that 10 properties worth about Rs 100 crore had been granted certain relaxations in building bylaws and sent for approval of the Local Bodies Department. Of these, five properties — both residential and commercial — in the posh Anand Avenue were granted approval yesterday, despite him sending a communiqué to the Local Bodies Secretary to relook into these cases. However, he did not get any response.

He said as per norms, the Trust could do away with certain norms for properties that existed before the schemes were introduced. However, these properties had come up after the improvement trust announced the schemes.Mahajan said: “My name was announced as Trust Chairman on August 4. The same day, all financial and executive powers were ‘delegated’ to my juniors. Before I joined office, all powers were vested in the Chairman,” he said.He alleged that this was done in blatant violation of the law as this was neither approved by the Cabinet nor brought to the attention of the Chief Minister. He claimed that Rs 50 crore of the Trust had been “diverted” to other cities for their development against the norms.
