Punjab Police SHO booked for rape

Chandigarh:A Punjab Police Inspector, posted as the SHO, Phase XI, Mohali, has been booked by the Chandigarh Police for allegedly raping a 50-year-old woman.
According to the police, the victim, in her statement to the police, stated that she was on her way to Chandigarh from Mohali to visit the Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH), Sector 32, on Friday, when she started feeling suffocated.
The police said the victim mentioned that she stopped her car on the roadside and stepped out of it to have fresh air, when the accused, Sukhdev Singh, arrived in his car. The victim alleged that she was raped by the accused in her car.

According to the victim, the accused then escaped from the spot. The police were informed about the incident following which the victim’s medical examination was conducted.
Inspector Gurjit Kaur, SHO of the Sector 31 police station, said a case under Sections 376 (rape) and 506 (criminal intimidation) of the IPC had been registered on the victim’s statements. “No arrests have been made so far,” the SHO said.
