Kathua rape and murder: Sikh engineer donates one month salary to victim’s family

PAMPORE: Expressing his solidarity with the family of Kathua rape and murder victim, a Sikh engineer from Tral has decided to donate his one month salary to the victim’s family.
Thirty-two-year-old Harminadar Pal Singh working as a Junior Engineer in Power Development Department is a resident of Gameraj village of Tral.
He told Kashmir Reader that this barbaric act should not be seen through the prism of religion but humanity.
“It is my moral duty to help a nomadic family who has been made to suffer, and since I am blessed with a job and donation of one month salary would not make me suffer,” he said, “Asifa was like my own daughter.”

He demanded stringent action against the culprits as well as those who tried to save them.
“They should be given harsh punishment so that it will deter others from such acts in future,” he said.
He also advised India to take a lesson from Pakistan, “The culprit involved in the rape and murder of 8-year-old Zainab of Pakistan was hanged soon after the investigation was complete and same parameters must be followed here so that the family gets speedy justice,”
He told Kashmir Reader that the modesty of women must be respected and Asifa was not the daughter of the nomadic family only but of the whole country.
Eight-year-old Asifa from the Bakherwal community in Kathua district was raped and murdered on January 17 this year, a week after she went missing while grazing horses in the area.
