The death of accused Jazzinder Singh Virk, alias Garry, 30, who had allegedly kidnapped assistant professor Sukhpreet Kaur, 32, of Guru Nanak Dev University (GNDU) from Amritsar on September 11, has shattered the local police’s hopes to trace the victim. The accused’s death has left many questions unanswered in the kidnapping case of Sukhpreet, who belongs to Baghapurana in Moga district. The police was hoping to trace the victim, arrest him and solve the case. But Garry, of Kharar in Mohali, committed suicide in Amboli village of Maharashtra on Wednesday.

Garry had allegedly kidnapped the victim on September 11, but the police was informed on September 14 evening. “Accused was three days ahead of us though our teams caught up really fast. We were trailing with a diminutive distance from the accused. We were hopeful of nabbing him in Maharashtra, but he committed suicide,” said a senior police official on condition of anonymity.
“It is a blind case for us now. We are absolutely clueless about the whereabouts of the victim,” he added. The prime question that has put the police in a lurch is, why did the victim accompany the accused, with consent, if she suspected life threat.
