Girl jumps into canal after rape bid

Anandpur Sahib-A girl jumped into the Bhakra canal after two boys tried to rape her here yesterday. Both were arrested today, along with two girls who allegedly helped them.
Raj Bachan Singh Sandhu, SSP, said a resident of Kurali (Mohali) had lodged a complaint on September 2, claiming that his 17-year-old daughter had gone with her two friends (both girls), Jasvir Singh of Kurali and Gurjot Singh of Chatamala village to Naina Devi.

He alleged that Jasvir and Gurjot, in connivance with the girls, had attempted to rape her and she had jumped into the canal nearby while trying to escape.
Sandhu said a case had been registered under Section 366 (kidnapping, abducting or inducing woman to compel her marriage), 376 (rape), 511 (attempting to commit offences punishable with imprisonment for life or other imprisonment) and 120-B (criminal conspiracy) of the IPC and Sections 4 and 18 of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act.
The two minor girls have been sent to Nari Niketan, Jalandhar, after being produced in the court.
The victim’s body is yet to be recovered.
