On August 25, when a special court of the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) pronounced Gurmeet guilty of two counts of rape, following a CBI inquiry over a complaint that first surfaced in 2002, a crowd of no less than 200,000 descended upon the court premises in Panchkula, Haryana. The area turned into a virtual war-zone with an armed mob resorting to large-scale arson and violence, and fighting a pitched battle with the security forces.The district police today arrested eight persons, including a state committee member of the Dera Sacha Sauda and two “bhangidas”, for the Panchkula violence on August 25.

Those arrested were identified as state committee member Sukhwinder Singh, two bhangidas Shishpal and Jaswinder Singh and Gurpiar Singh, Jagdeep Singh, Gurdas Singh, Mohit Kumar and Rattan Lal.
The Kabarwala police had booked 24 persons for hurling petrol bombs on private and public property on August 25. Four other accused were arrested earlier.
