Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh has joined the voices against the releases of Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Padmavati, saying the Karni Sena’s protest is justified. Reacting to the controversy surrounding the film starring Deepika Padukone, Shahid Kapoor and Ranveer Singh, Captain Singh on Monday said, “Nobody will accept distortion of history and those who are protesting are rightly doing so.”

The clamour against Padmavati also reached Jammu and Kashmir on Monday. National Conference leader Devender Singh Rana has written to Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti asking her not to allow the release of Padmavati in the state till the film’s contents are verified.Joining his BJP counterparts in condemning the movie, Amarinder Singh, in his comments said: “Anything that is historical event… no one will object. But here they are distorting history,” Singh told reporters.

“I have also gone to Chittor and returned and seen all things there… So, this is distortion of history and no one will accept it.”
“And if communities are objecting to it then it is their right to object,” the Punjab Chief Minister added.
The comments come a day after the release of “Padmavati” was “voluntarily” deferred from its scheduled date of December 1.
