AAP MLA Sukhpal Khaira becomes Leader of Opposition in Punjab Assembly

Aam Aadmi Party MLA from Bholath Sukhpal Khaira is now the Leader of Opposition in the Punjab Assembly as 14 of the 19 MLAs have agreed to back him. A meeting to choose the leader is scheduled at 4 pm at party convener Arvind Kejriwal’s residence in New Delhi.Though there was a strong social media campaign in favour of Talwandi Sabo MLA Baljinder Kaur, the 14 MLAs, who met on July 17 in Chandigarh, decided to support Khaira for the Leader of Opposition’s post.

The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader had announced his decision to quit from the post to fight the 1984 cases in Delhi courts.After the state assembly polls, the AAP had emerged as the principal opposition party. Phoolka, the MLA from Dakha assembly constituency, was elected leader of the AAP legislature party on March 16 and became the leader of opposition in the state assembly.
